In Word97 or Word2000, Characters appear as square boxes in printed document. Why?
This problem occurs because your printer driver does not provide support for Unicode characters. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Word 97 for Windows, and has also provided the solutions (click here to read on).

Also, you can try installing an old printer driver/software for your printer. For example, if you have the above problem with a new HP Laserjet printer, you can go to your windows "Start", "Settings", "Printers", "Add printer" to add HP Laserjet 5L PCL (non-postscript) driver/software.

NOTE: You could also use our NJStar Chinese WP 4.33, which has no such printing problem and will print on any printers.

TIPS: Below is another walk-around solution by a NJStar user, Mr Fuqian Tang (tsteam@tslaser.com):

I found out that one can also solve the printing problem in the following way (a little bit cumbersome)
  1. Save as *htm, *.html file while in WORD2000 or EXCEL2000.
  2. Open the file in the INTERNET EXPLORER environment.
  3. Open NJStar Communicator so that the document is nicely displayed.
  4. While in the INTERNET EXPLORER environment, run PAGE SETUP to set up the page correctly. Run PRINT PREVIEW to see if everything appears OK.
  5. Print the document While in the INTERNET EXPLORER environment.

My Chinese Windows ME/98 menu become corrupted when I read Japanese/Korean.
Please check "Preserve CJK Window Text" box inside the "Options..." settings.

My computer does not allow me to type Chinese, it only input English letters.
It seems that your computer may have a nasty virus which "hooks" your keyboard (for stealing passwords or credit card information, etc.). One such virus is called "bugbear".

NJStar needs to intercept keyboard to form Chinese pinyin, but it can't intercept keyboard on your computer. It means that a virus is already intercepting your keyboard and sending the letters directly through.

To verify it, please download NJStar on another computer (for example, your friend's computer or office computer) and install NJStar Communicator 2.30 to test. If other computers work OK with NJStar Communicator, you definitely need to have your computer scanned thoroughly for viruses.

My notebook computer running Windows 2000 freezes after installing NJStar Communicator.
Certain laptop/notebook computer video drivers have problem with NJStar Communicator's "hooking" method which is essential in intercepting and displaying CJK language characters.

The problem happens normally to Windows 2000 or NT. Please go to your Windows 2000 control panel and adjust the system "color" settings" from 32 bit to 16 bit colors. Many users have solved the problem by adjusting the above setting.

NJStar CJK IME can not input into Internet Explorer
It seems NJStar Communicator IME can not hook the keyboard in order to input to IE. There are two possibilities:

1. Your anti-virus or anti-spyware program prevent njstar from hooking keyboad. In this case you need to disable the function such as 'key-logger guard'. You can test it by temporarily disable anti-virus and anti-spyware program.

It is confirmed that some version of SpywareDoctor installed a key-logger guard plug-in for IE, so even if SpywareDoctor is closed, NJstar still can not input into IE. In this case we have to remove the plug-in or unstall SpywareDoctor.

2. Your computer is infected with some virus that prevent njstar from hooking the keyboard. In this case the virus has hooked the keyboard, so njstar can not input. Please do a complete virus/spyware scan with latest virus definitions.

We recommend free anti-virus: AntiVir

NJStar IME can not start /input under SpywareDoctor 3.2
It has been confirmed that an AntiSpyware program such as SpywareDoctor can BLOCK an application from starting if the application hooks the keyboard. This is a good idea for anti-spyware but it can create trouble when trusted application (such as NJStar CJK IME) is blocked. NJStar CJK IME has to hook the keyboard in order to input CJK txt into any windows. To allow NJStar IME to start under SpywareDoctor (Registered version), Keylogger Guard, please add NJSIME.exe, NJJIME.exe and NJKIME.exe as shown in the picture below.

When above is done, NJStar IME can start and input into any windows except Internet Explorer. This is because SpywareDoctor blocks any program from hooking the Internet Explorer using an IE Browser Helper Object (iesdpb.dll) under Browser Guard function. This Browser Helper Object is running when ever IE is running, even when SpywareDoctor has been closed. The solution is to uninstall the SpywareDoctor or manually remove the SpywareDoctor Browser Helper Object by deleting the following registry key using REGEDIT.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
\Browser Helper Objects\{B56A7D7D-6927-48C8-A975-17DF180C71AC}

NJStar upper toolbar disappears
The NJStar upper toolbar can be shown or hidden by double clicking on the NJStar icon in System Tray. If you have run NJStar Communicator or CJK Viewer but can not find NJStar icon in System Tray, please find the answer in FAQ.

Please tell me how to use the Mailing List feature of the NJStar Express Mail.
From the language input bar, start "Send Express Mail" program.

A message can be send to multiple users by specify the mailing list file name in the To: field. Or you can press the [To:] button to browse the mailing list file.

The mailing list file should contain one email address on each line in any of the following formats:

jsmith@domain.com
jsmith@domain.com (John Smith)
John Smith

You can create your mailing list by using Windows Notepad or MS Word and save it as a "text" (.txt) file.

Set Outlook Express encoding
To send emails properly with Outlook Express. Please select Format->encoding->(simplified Chinese or Tradtional Chinese according to what you are typing) before composing.

Sometime I receive email message with a few lines containing corrupted characters.
English text/sentence has "spaces" separating the words. A long line is wrapped from a "space" character.

However, Asian text is composed of double-byte characters with NO "spaces" in between them. Therefore, a normal English email program does not know where to "break" (wrap) a long Asian language text/line. When a long Chinese line is wrapped wrongly in the middle of a character, a whole line of Chinese text will be corrupted.

You can edit the corrupted line by removing one half character at the front of the line. Or you can ask your friend to send Chinese message with pre-wrapped shorter lines.

NJStar Communicator has an "Universal Code Convertor" which allows you to copy and convert/wrap a long Asian language text into shorter lines to read.
